CPM Calculator
Formula: CPM = cost ÷ impressions × 1,000. Each extra 1,000 impressions costs $4.00.
How the CPM calculation works
CPM is the price of 1,000 impressions
Divide the total cost by the number of impressions and multiply by 1,000. $500 for 125,000 impressions is a $4.00 CPM.
Solve for cost when you know the rate
Multiply the CPM by impressions and divide by 1,000. 125,000 impressions at an $8 CPM cost $1,000.
Solve for impressions when you know the budget
Divide the budget by the CPM and multiply by 1,000. A $500 budget at an $8 CPM buys 62,500 impressions.
Compare channels on the same basis
CPM lets you compare a newsletter sponsorship, a podcast read and a social campaign by what each 1,000 views costs.
Worked example. A campaign costs $500 and delivers 125,000 impressions. $500 ÷ 125,000 × 1,000 = a $4.00 CPM, or $0.0040 per impression.
CPM FAQ
What is cost per mille (CPM) and cost per impression?
Cost per mille is the price of 1,000 ad impressions; cost per impression is that number divided by 1,000. A $12 CPM is $0.012 per impression. This calculator works either way: enter the cost and impressions to get CPM, or a CPM to get the cost.
What is the CPM formula?
CPM = total cost ÷ impressions × 1,000. It is the cost of showing an ad 1,000 times.
How do I calculate impressions from CPM?
Impressions = budget ÷ CPM × 1,000. A $300 budget at a $6 CPM buys 50,000 impressions.
What is a good CPM?
It depends on the platform, audience and season, so compare your CPM with your own past campaigns and with other channels you use. A low CPM is only good if the impressions lead to clicks or sales.
What is the difference between CPM and CPC?
CPM is what you pay per 1,000 impressions; CPC is what you pay per click. CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000), so a $5 CPM with a 1% CTR works out to $0.50 per click.
Does CPM mean the same thing in trucking?
No. In trucking, CPM means cost per mile. This calculator covers advertising CPM, the cost per 1,000 ad impressions.
