How to print Avery 5163 labels

  1. Paste the addresses

Type them with a blank line between each, or copy rows from Excel or Google Sheets. The preview shows the first sheet as it will print.

  2. Pick where to start

On a fresh sheet, start at label 1. On a partly used one, start at the first free label. For return address labels, fill the sheet with one address.

  3. Test on plain paper

Switch on the outlines, download, print at 100% and hold the page against a label sheet. Move the labels if they're off, then switch the outlines off.

  4. Print on the labels

Load the label sheet the way your printer takes letterhead and print. Lists longer than 10 come out on extra sheets, up to 20 sheets at a time.

Need smaller address labels for envelopes? Use the Avery 5160 template (30 per sheet). Shipping boxes? Check the dimensional weight and the freight class before you buy postage. Billing the customer? Make an invoice.

Avery 5163 template FAQ

Is this an official Avery template?

No. smbcalc isn't connected with Avery. The PDF uses the 5163 layout measured from Avery's own blank template: 10 labels of 2" × 4", 2 across and 5 down on a US Letter sheet, so it fits 5163 and other labels sold in that size, such as Avery 8163.

What size is Avery 5163, and what are the margins?

Each label is 2" tall and 4" wide, 10 to a sheet. On Avery's blank template the top and bottom margins are 0.5", the left and right margins are 0.15625" (5/32"), the gap between the two columns is 0.1875" (3/16") and the rows touch with no gap.

Is Avery 8163 the same size as 5163?

Yes. Avery lists both as 2" × 4" shipping labels and uses the same blank template for both. 5163 is made for laser printers and 8163 for inkjet printers, so this PDF works for either; just print on the right sheet for your printer.

How do I make the labels line up?

Print at 100% ("Actual size"), not "Fit to page". Do a test first: switch on label outlines, print on plain paper and hold it against a label sheet up to a light. If it's off, enter how far to move it and print again.

Can I paste addresses from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy the rows with one address per row and the name, company, street and city in separate columns. Each row becomes a label and each column a line.

How many lines fit on a 5163 label?

Up to 6, enough for a name, company, street, suite and city. Short addresses print at up to 14 pt; long lines get smaller, down to 7 pt, and anything still too long is cut short.

How do I print on a sheet I've already partly used?

Set Start at label to the first free label, counting across and then down. Label 3 is the first one on the second row.

Are my addresses uploaded?

No. The PDF is made in your browser and the list is only saved on this device so it's still here if you reload.
