How the Amazon FBA calculation works
An FBA calculator for Amazon sellers: the referral and FBA fees on a product, and the profit, margin and ROI left per unit and per month, with your own FBA fee.
Amazon takes a referral fee on the sale price
Most categories pay 15% of the total sales price, with a $0.30 minimum per item. A $25 item pays $3.75. Some categories pay 8% or a tiered rate.
FBA charges a fulfillment fee per unit
It depends on the size tier, shipping weight and price band. A 12–16 oz large-standard item priced $10–$50 pays $4.60 on the 2026 non-peak rate card and $4.89 during the 15 Oct 2026–14 Jan 2027 peak. Since 17 April 2026 Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge, so about $5.06 now.
Storage is charged per cubic foot per month
Standard-size items pay $0.78 per cubic foot from January to September and $2.40 from October to December. A unit of 0.1 cubic foot costs about $0.08 a month off-peak and $0.24 in the holiday months.
Add your landed cost
Product cost plus the cost of getting each unit into Amazon's warehouse, including any inbound placement fee. ROI is profit divided by this landed cost.
Worked example. A $25.00 product that costs $6.00, plus $0.75 to ship it to Amazon, pays a $3.75 referral fee, a $5.00 FBA fee and $0.15 storage. Profit is $9.35 per unit, a 37.4% margin and 138.5% ROI, or $935 a month at 100 units. Below $14.00 it loses money.
Amazon FBA FAQ
How much does Amazon FBA take per sale?
The referral fee (15% in most categories) plus the FBA fulfillment fee for the item's size and weight, plus storage. For a $25 item weighing 12–16 oz in a large-standard box, that is about $8.80 now ($3.75 referral and about $5.06 FBA with the holiday rate and surcharge), or about $8.50 off-peak, before storage.
How do I find my exact FBA fee?
Use Amazon's Revenue Calculator, or find your size tier, shipping weight and price band in the FBA fulfillment fee table in Seller Central. Enter that number in the FBA fee field. Amazon uses the greater of unit weight or dimensional weight for large-standard and bulky items.
Are FBA fees higher in the holiday season?
Yes. From 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027 Amazon charges peak fulfillment fees, for example $4.89 instead of $4.60 for a 12–16 oz large-standard item at $10–$50. Storage also rises from $0.78 to $2.40 per cubic foot for standard-size items in October to December.
What are Amazon's seller fees?
A selling plan (Professional at $39.99 a month, or Individual at $0.99 per item sold), the referral fee on every sale, and a $1.80 closing fee on media items. FBA adds fulfillment, storage and inbound placement fees. Spread the monthly plan fee over your units in the ad field if you want it in the profit.
What is a good ROI for Amazon FBA?
Amazon doesn't set one. Your ROI has to pay for returns, unsold or aged stock, and the weeks your cash sits in inventory, so slow sellers need more than fast ones. Check the margin too: a high ROI on a cheap item can still leave very little profit per sale.
Is the referral fee charged on the total price?
Yes. Amazon charges the percentage of the total sales price, or the minimum, whichever is greater. With FBA the buyer usually pays no separate shipping charge, so for most FBA sales that is the item price.
What is the low-inventory-level fee?
A per-unit fee added to the FBA fee when your stock covers less than 28 days of sales, both over the last 30 and the last 90 days. From 15 January 2026 it is $0.32–$0.89 for small-standard items and $0.36–$1.11 for large-standard items. New sellers, slow sellers (under 20 units in 7 days) and grocery are exempt.
What other Amazon fees should I plan for?
Inbound placement fees ($0.14–$1.90 per standard-size unit if you ship to one location), aged inventory surcharges on stock older than 181 days, returns processing, removal and disposal. Add them per unit to the shipping or ad fields.
