How the Etsy fee calculation works

Every Etsy fee on a US sale (listing, transaction, processing and Offsite Ads) and the profit left after your costs. Rates match Etsy's Fees and Payments policy (updated 5 Oct 2026) and Etsy Payments policy (updated 31 Jul 2026).

  1. Each listing costs $0.20

You pay it when you list, when you renew, and again for each extra quantity that sells from the same listing.

  2. The transaction fee is 6.5% of price plus shipping

Etsy charges it on the item price and whatever shipping, gift wrap and personalization you charge the buyer, but not on US sales tax. On $25 + $5 shipping that's $1.95.

  3. Payment processing is 3% + $0.25 of the total with tax

For US shops using Etsy Payments the fee includes the sales tax the buyer pays. $32.40 incl. tax costs $1.22.

  4. Offsite Ads only apply to sales they bring in

If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site and orders within 30 days, you pay 15% of the item price plus shipping (12% for shops with $10,000+ in sales over the past 365 days), capped at $100 per order.

  5. Your own costs come off last

Materials and the shipping label aren't Etsy fees, but they decide whether the sale made money.

Worked example. A $25.00 item with $5.00 shipping and 8% sales tax: the listing fee is $0.20, the transaction fee $1.95 and processing $1.22, so Etsy takes $3.37. After an $8.00 item cost and a $5.00 label you keep $13.63. Below $9.90 the same item loses money.

Etsy Fee FAQ

How much does Etsy take from a sale?

For a US shop: $0.20 to list, 6.5% of the item price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 processing on the total with tax. On a $25 item with $5 shipping that's $3.37, about 11% of the sale.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the processing fee both include the shipping you charge the buyer.

Are Etsy Offsite Ads mandatory?

Only for shops that made $10,000 or more in the past 12 months; they pay 12%. Smaller shops can opt out, and pay 15% if they stay in.

How do I price my item to make a profit on Etsy?

Use the break-even price as a floor, then add the profit you want. Remember fees grow with the price, so each extra dollar adds about 90 cents of profit, not a dollar.

How much is the Etsy listing fee?

$0.20 per listing. It's charged when you publish and again each time the listing renews: every four months if auto-renew is on, and each time one of several quantities sells. Editing a listing is free.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?

Partly. For US sellers the 6.5% transaction fee and Offsite Ads fee skip sales tax, but the 3% + $0.25 processing fee is charged on the full total the buyer pays, tax included.

Why is my real Etsy fee different?

Your statement can also include Etsy Ads, shipping labels, a 2.5% currency conversion fee if you list in a currency other than your payment account's, and a Regulatory Operating fee in some countries (for example 0.50% in Canada, 0.48% in the UK, 1.14% in France). US sellers pay no Regulatory Operating fee. Edit the rates to match your account.

What are Etsy fees outside the US?

The $0.20 listing fee and 6.5% transaction fee are the same, but processing depends on where your bank account is: 3% + C$0.25 in Canada for domestic or US orders, 4% + €0.30 in most EU countries. Outside the US the transaction fee also applies to tax included in your price.
