How the gutter cleaning price calculation works

  1. Estimate the time

150 feet at 75 feet an hour is 2 hours. Flushing 4 downspouts at 10 minutes each adds 40 minutes, and setup and driving 30: 3 h 10 min.

  2. Add for taller houses

Each story above the first adds the extra time you enter. At 50%, a two-story house takes 1.5 times as long on the gutters.

  3. Multiply by your rate and add costs

    3 h 10 min at $50 is $158.33. $10 of supplies and disposal and a $15 overhead share bring it to $183.33.

  4. Add profit and check your minimum

20% profit makes $220, or $1.47 per foot. Jobs under your $125 minimum are billed at $125.

Worked example. A one-story house with 150 feet of gutter and 4 downspouts takes 3 h 10 min at 75 feet an hour. At $50 an hour with $25 of supplies and overhead and 20% profit, charge $220, $1.47 per foot, earning $61.58 an hour.

Gutter Cleaning Price FAQ

How much does gutter cleaning cost?

It depends on the gutter length, the number of stories, how many downspouts need flushing, how clogged they are and the drive. This page does not quote a national average; it builds the price from your own time and costs. With the example inputs (150 feet, one story, 4 downspouts, $50 an hour, 20% profit) the job comes to $220, or $280 for the same house on two stories. Check local competitors before you publish prices.

How much should I charge for gutter cleaning?

Estimate the hours from the gutter length and your pace, add downspouts and drive time, multiply by your hourly rate, then add supplies, overhead and profit. Compare the result with local competitors before you publish prices.

Should I charge per foot or per job?

Many cleaners quote per linear foot with a minimum. Work out the job from your time, as here, and the per-foot price follows.

How much more for a two-story house?

Enough to cover the extra ladder time. Enter how much longer each extra story takes you; the price rises with the hours.

Should I charge to flush downspouts?

Include it in the job or list it as a line. The calculator counts minutes per downspout so the time is paid either way.

What ladder safety rules should a gutter cleaner follow?

OSHA's portable ladder safety card says to keep 3 points of contact while climbing, look for overhead power lines and avoid metal ladders near them, and set the base a quarter of the ladder's working length from the wall. An extension ladder used to reach a roof or other elevated surface must extend at least 3 feet above the point of support, and you should not stand on its top three rungs.

What about gutter guards and repairs?

Price them separately: materials plus your time. Use the handyman rate calculator for the hourly side.
