How the upholstery cleaning price calculation works
Enter your price per piece
The example price list is $120 for a sofa, $60 for an armchair and $30 for an ottoman. Replace them with your own prices.
Count the pieces
1 sofa, 2 armchairs and 1 ottoman come to $120 + $120 + $30 = $270.
Add extras and check the minimum
Add fabric protector, stain treatment or a trip charge if you sell them. A job under your $150 minimum is billed at $150.
Check your pay per hour
At 2.5 hours on the job with $25 of supplies and travel, $270 pays you $98 an hour.
Worked example. With example prices of $120 per sofa, $60 per armchair and $30 per ottoman, cleaning 1 sofa, 2 armchairs and 1 ottoman is $270, above the $150 minimum. After $25 of supplies and travel, 2.5 hours on the job pays $98 an hour, and the average piece is $67.50. All prices are examples; enter your own.
Upholstery Cleaning Price FAQ
How much should I charge for upholstery cleaning?
Set a price per piece that covers your time, supplies and travel, and check it here: the calculator shows what a job pays you per hour. Add a minimum charge so small jobs are still worth the trip.
How much does upholstery cleaning cost?
There is no official national price; it depends on the piece, the fabric, how dirty it is and local rates. With this page's example price list, 1 sofa, 2 armchairs and 1 ottoman come to $270. Ask local cleaners for written quotes to compare.
How do I price sofa or couch cleaning?
You can price by the piece or by the seat. Price a 3-seat sofa as one piece, and a sectional per seat so larger sectionals cost more. Time a few jobs to check that the price pays your hourly target.
Should I charge per seat or per piece?
Per piece is simpler for sofas, chairs and ottomans. Per seat (or per section) is fairer for sectionals, which come in many sizes. The calculator has both: a sofa line and a sectional seat line.
Should fabric protector and stain treatment cost extra?
If they take extra product or time, yes. Enter them as add-ons so the customer sees them on the quote.
What minimum should I charge?
Enough to cover travel, setup and at least an hour of work. Jobs that come in under the minimum are raised to it.
How do I work out what I earn per hour?
Subtract supplies and travel from the price and divide by the hours on the job. In the example, ($270 − $25) ÷ 2.5 hours = $98 an hour.
