How the car detailing price calculation works

  1. Time the package

A full detail with 2 hours inside and 1.5 hours outside is 3.5 hours. Add 30 minutes of travel and setup for a mobile job: 4 hours.

  2. Multiply by your rate

    4 hours at $45 is $180.

  3. Add products and overhead

$15 of products and a $10 overhead share make the cost $205.

  4. Add profit

25% profit gives $256.25 per vehicle. For an SUV that takes 20% longer, enter 20% extra time.

Worked example. A mobile full detail with 2 hours inside, 1.5 hours outside and 30 minutes of travel takes 4 hours. At $45 an hour with $25 of products and overhead and 25% profit, charge $256.25, earning $57.81 an hour.

Car Detailing Price FAQ

How much should I charge for car detailing?

Add up the hours for the package, multiply by your hourly rate, add products and overhead, then profit. Check what detailers near you charge for the same package.

How much does car detailing cost?

There is no official price list. Prices differ by area, package and vehicle, so this page does not quote typical ranges. A detailer's price should cover their hours, products, overhead and profit, which is what the calculator adds up. With the default inputs a 4-hour mobile full detail comes to $256.25. Compare that with a few local quotes for the same package.

How much should I charge for interior detailing?

Enter your interior hours and set exterior hours to 0. With the other defaults, 2 hours inside plus 30 minutes of travel comes to $171.88, or $143.75 at a shop with no travel. Add extra time for pet hair, stains or heavy soil.

How much more should I charge for an SUV or truck?

As much as the extra time costs you. Enter the extra time as a percentage; the price rises with the hours rather than a guessed surcharge.

How do I price mobile detailing?

Add your travel and setup minutes, and include water, power and van costs in overhead. The calculator does both.

How do I build a detailing price list?

Run the calculator once per package: exterior only, interior only and full detail, then once more with extra time for SUVs and trucks. The prices follow the hours each takes, so your price list stays tied to your real costs.

How do I price add-ons like ceramic coating?

Add their hours and product cost, or run them as a separate job. Paint correction and coatings take much longer than a standard detail.
