How the Mercari fee calculation works

Mercari's selling fee on a US sale, what you earn and your profit, whether you or the buyer pays shipping.

  1. Mercari charges 10% when the item sells

Listing is free. The 10% selling fee is charged only when the item sells. On a $30 item that's $3.00 before shipping.

  2. Buyer-paid shipping is included in the fee

If the buyer pays a $5.99 label, the 10% applies to $35.99, so the fee is $3.60. The shipping money itself goes to the label.

  3. If you pay shipping, it comes out of your earnings

The fee is then 10% of the item price only, but the label cost is deducted from what you earn.

  4. Subtract your cost for the real profit

What you paid for the item decides whether the sale made money. The break-even price shows the lowest price that covers it.

Worked example. A $30.00 item with a $5.99 label paid by the buyer pays 10% of $35.99, or $3.60, so you earn $26.40. After a $10.00 item cost you keep $16.40. If you paid the shipping instead you'd keep $11.01. Below $11.78 the item loses money.

Mercari Fee FAQ

How much does Mercari take from a sale?

10% of the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. This has applied to US listings created or updated since 6 January 2025. A $30 item with $5.99 buyer-paid shipping costs $3.60, so you earn $26.40.

What are Mercari's seller fees?

Listing is free. When an item sells you pay the 10% selling fee. Direct deposit to your bank is free, and Instant Pay costs $3 per transfer. Other fees apply only in some cases: up to 5% of the item price (maximum $25) if you cancel orders often, and carrier fines for wrong packaging.

Does Mercari still charge a payment processing fee?

No, not on listings created or updated since 6 January 2025. The old fee was 2.9% + $0.50, and the buyer paid it, not the seller. Mercari says older listings were updated to the new fees automatically.

Does the buyer pay a fee on Mercari?

Yes. The buyer pays a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. On a $30 item with $5.99 shipping that's $1.30. It doesn't come out of your earnings.

Does Mercari charge fees on shipping?

Yes, when the buyer pays for shipping the 10% includes it. When you pay shipping, the fee is on the item price only.

Should I offer free shipping on Mercari?

It lowers the fee slightly, because shipping is no longer in the fee base, but you pay the whole label. On a $30 item with a $5.99 label you keep $21.01 instead of $26.40 before item cost. Compare both options in the calculator before deciding.

How much is Mercari shipping?

Mercari's prepaid labels have fixed prices by weight. From 19 October 2026 a USPS Ground Advantage label costs $5.39 for 0.25 lb, $5.99 for 0.5 lb and $7.99 for 1 lb. Enter your label price in the calculator.

Does it cost money to cash out from Mercari?

A standard direct deposit is free and usually arrives within 5 business days. Instant Pay to an eligible debit card costs $3 per transfer, once a day and up to $600 a month. A failed direct deposit costs $2.
